Positive Psychology in Coaching - September 23 - December 16, 2010. 8:00AM - 9:00AM Pacific Time Innovative Positive Psychology in Coaching Teleclass (Conference Call Course). Thursdays. September 23 - December 16, 2010. (No class on Nov. 25th.) 8:00-9:00 AM Pacific Time. Partial List of Topics: Positive Psychology in Coaching provides the theoretical background supported by brief descriptions of the empirical research and applications of the findings of the rapidly developing new field of Positive Psychology (PP). Course participants will learn how to use these valuable applications with their clients.
Session 1 - Overview of the field and its main researchers (Seligman, Csikszentmihalyi, Fredericksen et al) and the benefits of teaching PP principles and techniques to coaching clients as well as to the participants personally.
Session 2 – Character Strengths. Using your strengths and virtues at work, Petersen’s Values in Action research.
Session 3 - Positive Words. Fredericksen’s work applied to business settings, recovering from shame and other string emotions at work and in other encounters; Ron Smith’s work on positive words in sport.
Sessions 4 & 5 – Flow: Meaningful Activities and Leadership Applications. Csikszentmihaly’s research on developing meaning in every-day life, work, and leadership.
Session 6 - Well-being and Happiness. Research on early life determinants that affect well-being and the implications for coaching work.
Session 7 - Gratitude & Forgiveness. Compassion exercises to develop empathy, prompt forgiveness, and activate the left frontal lobe for a sense of well-being.
Session 8 - Accentuating the Positives. Developing positive communication styles to enhance personal and occupational effectiveness.
Session 9 – Subjective Well-Being, Humor, and Money. Overview of Diener’s and colleagues’ research.
Session 10 – Positive Psychology in the Promotion of Physical Health. Is Happier really healthier?
Session 11 – Savoring. Enhancing positive in the present and strengthening positive memories about the past.
Session 12 – Positive Psychology in Action. Implementing and integrating into coaching.
12 One-hour classes. CE Credit available. Pre-requisite: Coaching Skills Course and a Graduate Degree are required, and Intermediate Coaching Skills is recommended. Binder of written materials included. Small group setting. Refund policy: Refund or change requests permitted until one week before start of class with a $50 administrative fee; after that date no refunds or changes.
